The communication and networking technologies research subproject includes wireless, networking and broadband wired communication technologies. The wireless technology research focuses on the related advanced technologies of wireless communication and wireless network. In wireless communication part, we shall target at intelligent antenna communication systems, coding, wireless broadband networks, software radio, wideband CDMA. In networking research, we shall concentrate on broadband internet and advanced applications. For wireless communications, we have established a broadband vector channel sounder measurement system and a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel measurement system; we have utilized the concepts of turbo coding and Hellstern's trellis coding to achieve a large free distance and a thin distance spectrum; we have constructed a programmable radio architecture and developed a multiuser detection and synchronization structure for the software radio system; we have implemented a rate adaptive OFDM high-speed transceiver; we have proposed a communication digital signal processor that is capable of performing massive operations in the OFDM and CDMA-based software-radio system. For broadband wireless network we have proposed a flexible traffic characterization approach as a generalization of deterministic constraint function. In networking related research, we focus on network architecture, network protocol, pricing policy and management, and applications of network related database. We have proposed two queuing models to evaluate the performance of multiprotocal label switching (MPLS) architecture; we have finished a packet scheduler dedicated to wireless LAN environment; we have designed and implemented an experiment system for both priority and pricing control of traffic over NTU student dormitory network; we have also completed the experiment design of traffic control by pricing.
